This is a fun and simple project for Valentine’s that makes creative use of cardboard toilet paper rolls.
These whimsical owls are super cute and each one is unique.
Cardboard Tube Valentine’s Owls
SUPPLIES:
- cardboard toilet paper rolls
- construction paper
- acrylic paint
- glue
- scissors
- pencil
- marker
- optional: googly eyes, glitter hearts from a craft store
Start by folding the top of the tube on both sides
Paint the tube with acrylic paint. We used red and pink paint but you can use whatever colours you like.
Cut out the wing hearts – the owl’s wings are upside down hearts. We cut hearts out of construction paper and glued one on each side of the tube. (Our wing hearts measured roughly 5 cm wide x 4 cm high)
Sketch the face details (eyebrows, eye circles, beak) out of construction paper and glue them on. You can also draw the eyebrows and eye circles with marker or paint them on. We tried one of each and they all look good. We ran out of googly eyes so we had to make our own.
The owl’s beak can be cut out of orange or yellow construction paper. We traced a diamond shape, trimming it until it was just the right size and glued it on.
Add decorative heart embellishments on the front of the owl to complete the project.
Tadaa! The finished owls look great.
